A Guide to Go Karting in North Wales

Despite the unfortunate lack of Welsh F1 drivers over the years, there certainly isn’t a lack of circuits for go karting in North Wales. In fact, you’ll find some of the best facilities in the entire country within driving distance of our North Wales holiday parks, all of which offer holiday makers the chance to enjoy an adrenaline fuelled day out packed with fun, friendly competition and stunning scenery.

Every circuit offers a completely different experience of go karting in North Wales, with a mix of indoor and outdoor circuits, varying facilities and different styles of go kart available to choose from. To help make your choice a little easier, we thought we’d put together a quick guide highlighting what we consider to be the best destinations to take into consideration for any tourists searching for go karts in North Wales.

1. GYG Karting – Betws-y-Coed
If you’re searching for an unforgettable day out packed with competition, adrenaline and stunning scenery, there’s no better destination than GYG Karting. This Betws-y-Coed go karting circuit is officially the largest track in Wales covering a total distance of over 1,100 metres. Over the course of each lap you’ll have an incredible experience taking on a collection of flat out bends, more challenging banked corners and long straights where you’ll really get the most out of the race tuned Honda 270 Sport Karts provided.

What we haven’t mentioned yet is that GYG is also considered to be the finest outdoor go karting circuit in North Wales. With its position in the midst of the stunning Snowdonia Mountain Range, there’s even a treat in store for the spectators thanks to the gorgeous countryside vistas which are on offer. These are best enjoyed from the balcony of the luxurious hospitality venue where you can indulge in a range of savoury and sweet treats which are worth the journey all by themselves.

 2. Glasfryn Parc – Pwllheli
Car nuts staying at our 5 star rated Gimblet Rock Holiday Park will be delighted to hear that there is a Pwllheli go-karting circuit located just a few short miles away from our resort in the form of Glasfryn Parc.

Here, the outdoor circuit offers a fun mix of fairly straightforward corners designed for drivers of all abilities. While not as intense as some of the more specialist venues such as the GYG circuit, its accessible design makes it ideal for families, beginners and casual racers who simply want to enjoy the thrill of speed in a friendly environment.

Another reason Glasfryn Parc is one of the best family attractions in Pwllheli is the wide array of other activities that are available at the venue. Alongside the go-karting circuit, you can take on the outdoor water park, go wakeboarding, try archery, enjoy a game of ten-pin bowling or let the little ones loose on the indoor soft play area. This versatility makes it an excellent all-day attraction and a perfect outing for holiday makers staying at Gimblet Rock Holiday Park. With food, drink and plenty of parking available, Glasfryn Parc ticks all the boxes for a convenient and enjoyable North Wales go karting experience.

3. Apex Kart – Sandycroft
Now onto our top recommendation for indoor go karting in North Wales. Situated in Sandycroft, Apex Kart offers an indoor karting experience which is famed for its accessibility and all weather reliability. Its compact circuit is made up of a mix of tight corners which really make the most of the small amount of space available. This results in a layout which rewards driver skill rather than providing an unfair advantage to lighter drivers, with there being very few long straights available.

Because the track is indoors, it’s the perfect choice for rainy days when outdoor activities may be less appealing. The venue provides modern equipment, briefing areas and a comfortable spectator space, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families and groups alike.

You can really make a day of it once you are at the circuit too, with other activities available at the facility including indoor crazy golf, archery, axe throwing, shooting & much more.

4. Rednal Karting – Oswestry
Rednal Karting, located just outside Oswestry, offers a rewarding outdoor karting experience surrounded by open countryside. The circuit is known for its open layout, allowing drivers to build up speed while still navigating a series of curves and technical sections. Unlike the circuit at Apex Kart, the Rednal Karting circuit feels spacious, which helps build confidence for newcomers while still providing enough challenge to keep experienced drivers engaged.

The venue is well regarded for its relaxed and friendly environment, making it a great choice for families and groups looking to enjoy a motorsport-themed day out in North Wales without feeling rushed or pressured. With its rural setting and welcoming atmosphere, it’s an enjoyable place to spend an afternoon.

5. Quarry Karts at Zip World

Now for something completely different, with the Quarry Karts attraction at Zip World offering a unique twist on karting in North Wales. Rather than providing a traditional racing circuit layout, this adrenaline-fuelled experience takes the form of a gravity-powered descent down a mountainside track created from the slate quarries of the region. The result is a thrilling downhill ride featuring chicanes, tunnels, banked corners and sweeping views of the surrounding quarry landscape.

Because the karts rely on gravity rather than engines, Quarry Karts deliver a style of racing that is entirely unique to this particular venue. Safety briefings and equipment are provided, and the staff at Zip World are known for creating fun, high-quality experiences for visitors of all ages.

This attraction is perfect for thrill seekers, families with older children and anyone who aren’t necessarily interested in motor racing, but are instead simply looking for an unforgettable activity that captures the adventure and character the North Wales region is famous for..

Experience the Best of Karting in North Wales

Each venue provides its own distinctive experience, making the region a fantastic destination for go karting in North Wales during your next holiday.
