We thought it would be helpful if we put together what we consider to be the best things to do with kids in Pwllheli, so that you can arrive for your holiday with a clear idea of how you are going to be spending your valuable time. Let’s start off with one that is right on our holiday park doorstep…

Pwllheli Beach
No trip to Pwllheli is complete without spending time on its sweeping beach. Stretching from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park all the way down to Llanbedrog, the beach is a haven for families. Children can build sandcastles, paddle in the shallows, or simply run off some energy along the golden sands.

The wide Pwllheli promenade that runs alongside the beach and is accessible from Gimblet Rock Holiday Park leads directly to the nearby town centre and is ideal for scooters, prams, and relaxed family strolls.

The south beach is especially family-friendly and even welcomes dogs throughout most of the year, meaning your furry friends don’t have to miss out. The only restriction is a small section between April and September, but the promenade offers a scenic dog walking alternative.

Anyone staying at Gimblet Rock Holiday Park will no doubt appreciate the convenience of the beach which is directly accessible from our resort. When hunger strikes, you’ll have the option of making use of the self catering facilities in your holiday accommodation which is just minutes away. Alternatively, you could grab a bite to eat in our on-site poolside cafe or our restaurant if you fancy a more substantial portion.

Seaside Amusement Arcades
Families who love the idea of having a traditional British seaside holiday in Pwllheli will be in their element in Funland Pwllheli.

Situated in the heart of the town, these family-run seaside amusement arcades have been delighting families for more than 60 years. It’s filled with everything you would expect with retro arcade games, fruit machines, air hockey, pool tables and even a ghost train.

Kids will love the colourful rides and games, while parents can enjoy the nostalgic charm, making use of the fruit machines or the air hockey and pool tables. There is also an on-site cafe which serves hearty meals and snacks, ensuring that you’ll have plenty of options when hunger strikes.

With most of the amenities being located indoors, Funland Pwllhli is great for families looking for things to do with kids in Pwllheli in the rain.

Glasfryn Parc
Located just outside of the main town, Glasfryn Parc is sure to be one of the highlights for anyone looking for family things to do near Pwllheli thanks to the incredible variety of activities that are available.

The attraction has something for everyone, with an outdoor go-karting circuit and waterpark complete with an inflatable obstacle course and the option to try paddleboarding, kayaking and many other popular water sports activities. There is even a tranquil fishing lake on-site for those members of the family who are seeking a little serenity in the midst of the stunning North Wales countryside.

However, the entertainment doesn’t stop there with there also being plenty of indoor activities to take advantage of. The whole family can have fun together in the ten-pin bowling alley, while smaller children are sure to have hours of fun in the soft play area. While the kids are having fun here, the adults can treat themselves to some grub from the on-site cafe which serves a range of hot & cold drinks and food items.

Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw
If you are looking for a dose of Welsh culture then we’d strongly recommend paying a visit to Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, an art gallery housed inside a magnificent Victorian Gothic Mansion. The venue introduces families to the artistic heritage of Wales with displays showcasing some of the country’s most talented artists, providing an engaging activity for all ages.

Exhibitions change every six to eight weeks, so every visit offers something new to discover. For parents keen to encourage creativity in their children, this arts centre is a brilliant way to inspire young minds. The permanent collection of Swansea and Nantgarw porcelain adds a touch of history, giving insight into Wales’ short but important porcelain-making tradition in the 19th century.

The building in which the art gallery is based is worth the trip all by itself. Its dramatic architecture, paired with a highly praised café (which has even won national awards), makes it a spot where the whole family can relax and enjoy a slower-paced day. It’s proof that things to do in Pwllheli for families don’t always have to be about thrills – sometimes, it’s about soaking up beauty and culture together.

Plas yn Rhiw – A Step Back in Time
Continuing with the educational theme, families with a penchant for history will no doubt relish a visit to Plas yn Rhiw. This charming 16th century manor house, set against the stunning backdrop of the Llyn Peninsula, is managed by the National Trust and tells the story of the Lewis family who once occupied the residence.

Walking through the rooms which are decorated to be in keeping with the time period chronicled, children will get the chance to see how families lived centuries ago, learning about Welsh gentry life in a way that feels real and tangible.

The house itself is fascinating, but it’s often the gardens which capture visitors’ hearts. These ornamental gardens are filled with seasonal colour and provide panoramic views over Cardigan Bay. Parents can enjoy the tranquillity while kids explore winding paths and discover hidden corners. It’s an outing that combines learning with pleasure, making it one of the best things to do with kids in Pwllheli if you want to balance education with leisure.
